Maybe try a box with sand in it for litter box? I did that for a kitten I found while staying in a hotel for work before I could take it home. It worked.

I would have gotten it to a vet ASAP just because if this was my lost elderly cat, I would want them back like yesterday. my maine coon Loki was 16.5 when he passed last year and Lali, my other cat, is 17. I would be going insane with worry.
