The reasons for not being with the kids: the drive is fairly long (well who's fault is THAT?); he needs to work (not like that's every been a barrier to HIM needing a day off or some Ken time, though); the weather will be rainy, and since he has NO WHERE to be with them out of the rain, screw it.
