@reallifewithjess8: What I don’t understand is why some people feel the need to announce that they’re NOT celebrating Juneteenth. Okay… then don’t. Most African Americans already know Juneteenth wasn’t the exact day slavery ended everywhere. We know our history. Juneteenth represents the day enslaved people in Texas finally learned they were free. It’s a milestone. A moment in history. Just like other holidays commemorate important moments, Juneteenth commemorates one too. Nobody is forcing anyone to celebrate anything. But acting like people don’t understand the significance of the day isn’t the gotcha some people think it is. Celebrate it. Don’t celebrate it. That’s your choice. But let’s stop pretending that honoring a historical milestone means people are confused about history. Now tell me where I’m wrong. 👇🏽 #Juneteenth #BlackHistory #HistoryMatters #FreedomDay #DiscussionTime
I’m weighing in cuz I’m gonna be loving my day off.

What does Juneteenth actually do for black people at the end of the day? What are we doing with it to obtain equality and justice for all black people. All I've seen is line dancing and partying. That's not what Juneteenth should be or represent us as.

Juneteenth is a holiday created by democrats to remind black people that they were slaves and to keep them thinking of themselves as victims.

Because it wasn't white people who sacrificed their lives or anything to fight for your freedom. It wasn't Union Major General Gordan Granger, a white man who delivered the Emancipation Proclamation to Texas which was the whole point. You would be surprised how many black people don't know the significance of Juneteenth. I don't celebrate it but it but it's observed for its significance in our history.
