Passing the German B1 exam is no small feat, but doing it through self-study while raising a family is proof that with enough passion and hard work, anything is possible! 💪✨For about six months, I really wanted to learn German, but attending a traditional language school (Sprachschule) simply wasn't an option for me. I had two major roadblocks:👶 Two toddlers: I have two beautiful children under the age of three who needed my constant care.💶 The high cost: Standard integration courses last around 9 months and cost nearly €300 per month, which was a huge financial commitment.The real turning point came when both of my babies finally started kindergarten. 🎒 With the kids in school, I dedicated myself full-time to an intensive, two-month study sprint. Since I was studying on my own, I designed a customized, targeted approach for each language skill:📺 Grammar & Listening: I relied heavily on YouTube videos, which allowed me to pause, rewind, and learn at my own pace.🤖 Writing: I used ChatGPT as my personal AI tutor to practice writing letters and essays, getting instant corrections.📚 Reading: I borrowed official course books from a friend who had attended a language school, ensuring I covered the right exam material.🗣️ Speaking (Sprechen): For the presentation and Gemeinsame Planung parts, I made a list of the most common exam themes. My husband and I then simulated the exact exam format together until I felt confident.While self-study can never fully replace the structured environment of a classroom, it is infinitely better than sitting idle and letting time slip away. ⏳To all my fellow girls and moms out there who want to learn by themselves: you can do this! 💖 It won't be easy, but if you bring hard work, deep passion, and dedicated time, you will succeed.
