I heard on the radio many years ago someone during interview about the idea of a bypass for Stafford (a local councillor if I remember correctly) state that Stafford didn't need a bypass, he stated that people didn't want to drive around Stafford.........

Put in a new bypass by tenpin to Sainsbury’s but don’t make the filter lane for traffic coming south to turn right long enough so it blocks up foregate completely.
