I’ve definitely been the “religious “ person and I think that’s largely due to some teachings. You hear things life fast, pray, give etc and God will do this in return so when you do all these things and it doesn’t go as anticipated it tends to break a person’s commitment. I remember praying, fasting and giving for “blessings” that seemed to come naturally to others and that affected the way I saw God; I remember I stopped praying and asking for certain things and when I’d read scriptures of his promises I remembered saying to him “I believe you’re real, I believe you can do it but I’m not sure you can do it for me given how many times my expectations have been disappointed.” It affected my prayer routine, my faith and my commitment because I felt blindsided in a way.
