Venn1955Samuel Thornhill :
■ Disrespectfulness to anyone whom they consider as being beneath them, is the order of day within the UNC. The spectre of "apaan jaat" politics, is one that they have been waiting with bated breath to invoke because it is the default setting, whenever their foolishness begins to catch up with them, as is happening now.
■ A certain Bishnu Maharaj made a post in which he suggested that Africans in this country are the problem. He also opined that we do not contribute positively to our society, although our foreparents were beaten and dehumanized as slaves for over 300 years.
■ Most disturbing however, is his statement that we are a cancer in our society that must be eradicated. Collins Dictionary defines the word eradicate as, "to get rid of something completely, especially a problem or a disease."
■ According to Mr. Maharaj's own descriptive, the Africans in this country, fall under both categories. I would really like to know therefore, by exactly what method is he suggesting that we should be eradicated?
■ It does not surprise me at all, that ordinary citizens would begin to make statements that are totally inexcusable and downright dangerous because the Prime Minister herself, has made some very unbecoming pronouncements during the past year.
■ For example, Mrs. Persad-Bissessar has publicly called for "all drug-traffickers to be killed violently." The reality is that she, having been a lawyer and a parliamentarian for more than 30 years, must have known that such actions, would have the effect of denying accused persons of their right to be presumed innocent, until proven guilty—and to have access to the due processes of the law.
■ She has also supported the unlawful killing of more than 100 innocent, unarmed civilians by the US Navy, although by virtue of her training and experience as a Senior Counsel, she must have been aware that those acts are serious violations of the Second and Fourth Geneva Conventions.
