We got our sweet boy from PetSmart over 10 years ago…and while I wouldn’t trade him for the world I still hate knowing he was a puppy mill puppy and I supported that. My other baby was a rescue and any other animal I get in the future will be too.

Don’t forget, they are a lifetime commitment!! Not when it gets hard, aren’t listening, chewing up everything. 🥺 they are not disposable! IF they have to have a puppy and not adopt 🥺

I got my mini schnauzer through AKC, all the feedback I got was very positive & they were a reputable breeder. She is a delightful little soul. The place was amazing including a training arena. Just mini & standard schnauzers. Family run, outstanding quality, the parents were as sweet as she is. My first family dog was a whoops from a neighbor, mixed breed golden retriever springer spaniel mix. 2nd dog was a mini schnauzer from a local breeder recommended to us after our first dog passed away. I also fostered for collie rescue for years. I completely agree with you about a responsible breeder. Miss Lindsey pictured was our first dog ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you! I appreciate this take from someone who is in the pet rescue industry. I’ve gotten so much shit when I tell people I got my German Shepherd from a breeder. It’s exhausting that they can’t seem to understand that having a child with Down Syndrome means I have to be intentional with the temperament of the animals I bring into my home. I can’t risk bringing a shelter dog home who could potentially have trauma and be aggressive or bite my daughter who doesn’t always understand boundaries. Before her I adopted many animals, but that’s just not something I can do with the disability my child has anymore. I wish more people were able to understand not every home is a good environment for shelter/rescue dogs and that’s okay.
