if you're gonna write a book for it to be turned into a show, just write a screenplay or something and pitch it to movie directors or something stop forcing it into books!

I have to heavily disagree. If anything, it’s helping people get back into reading. When I was in high school in 2012 and the first hunger games movie came out, my sister had read the book and I hadn’t even heard of it before. We went to watch it together and I was hooked. I read all the books as fast as I could and I am now, almost 15 years later, a lifelong fan of the series and a lifetime reader. If I see a book is being turned into a movie or show, I’ll add that book to my TBR. If I read a book and find out there’s a movie, I’ll be watching that movie. Hell, look at meetmeinthemediacenter’s BRG— TSITP and its sequels STAYED on hold this past year. Look at how many copies of any book that has an accompanying show or movie have sold. Look at how many people’s book-reading journey STARTED with a movie. If someone is choosing not to read a book because there’s a movie, odds are they were never going to pick the book up in the first place. But there are sure as hell people picking up books because of movies.

It’s crazy to me that people can enjoy the adaptation but have NO interest in reading the original?? Like there are a lot of Harry Potter/Hunger games fans who have never read the books which is crazy to me bc they’re not even a hard read! Everyone knows the book’s always better than the movie too they don’t know what they’re missing out on

I kept pestering my friend to read Shatter Me, and she said she would. But the second the movie was announced, she said “well ig I don’t have to read it anymore, I’ll just watch the movie” That broke my heart a little bit

if anything, i think it shows a lack of creativity in the media in general. you hardly see original stories in the cinema anymore. it’s all sequels or biopics or adaptations.
