Mbembe is Cameroonian! Thank you for sharing this. I’ve heard of these terms before but never really dived into the reading, excited to do so!

Vivacia the universe’s baby :
Necropolitics changed everything to me. Mbembe also has much to say about how under certain conditions, Death can itself be an act of “living”, a sovereign act. For example: “those who chose the sea” on the terrible journey across the Atlantic. To meet Death on one’s own terms is to snatch that power from the hands of those who would wield it and fear of it against them. As Mbembe so beautifully put it—“death can itself become an act of freedom; For death is precisely that from and over which I have Power.” Pg.98

I have heard the term necropolitics. I think even before this I suspected this was truer than I wanted it to be. I live in a township which is best imagined as an open air prison, neglected, polluted and ignored. I cannot thank you for this medicine because in my culture we don't thank people for medicine. but I have learned.

I feel like there is definitely something to said about how the trope of a zombie evolved when transplanted from Haitian to a US context (especially 1960's US), but I am not knowledgeable enough about the topic to articulate it
