@sandiegomag: The building that launched a thousand backseat questions is finally inviting us in. You know the one. A white peak above the 5 that that rivals the Matterhorn. A shimmery “almost home” landmark. A place for ambitious birds to land and newly licensed drone pilots to learn hard lessons. It's the San Diego California Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Also known as Cinderella’s Castle to former and current children. Today, after a three-year renovation, the San Diego California Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reopens its doors for a three-week public open house. The architectural landmark broke ground in 1988 and opened in 1993. William S. Lewis designed it with Dennis and Shelly Hyndman, a Roman Catholic couple handed quite the design brief: help shape the interior of an LDS temple without ever setting foot inside one. The last public tours in 1993 drew 700,000 visitors. San Diegans are nothing if not curious. The free, 45-minute walking tours are open to everyone, regardless of faith. After its August rededication, only church members can enter for worship. No cameras allowed inside. It’s you and your photographic memory against the world.
