@dralexgeorge: Talking about mental health isn't enough. We need to be seen and supported early. I was back in Parliament last week fighting for young people's mental health. It’s great that we’re having more open conversations about mental health, but we're letting down the people who come forward with incredibly long waiting times. Investing in early support is best for the person struggling, but every part of society benefits too. We need a cross-government approach to mental health, and we need it now. What do you think?

not only is early intervention a huge contributor to someone’s recovery, it would also save so many resources (seeing as money seems to be such a big motivator), just using myself as an example if i got support for me ed when i first reached out, the likelihood is i may have not needed hospital stays/admissions, avoided a lot of chronic physical health conditions that have needed surgeries and monitoring and medication etc etc

I work for a mental health charity in Scotland, and our focus is firmly on early intervention. We respond to all referrals within 24 hours because that first moment someone reaches out is often the most critical. It’s not about “fixing” everything straight away, it’s about offering time, space and compassion, providing short, sharp coping strategies, and making sure people are connected quickly to longer‑term services. It saves lives. If we want real change, this is where funding needs to be rolled out. 💯

Thank you so much for advocating for our young people. My daughter is 22 now and has been through so many challenges since 16 years of age, so many waiting lists. She began with low mood and now has EUPD along with late diagnosis of ASD level 1 and still waiting for ADHD assessment through the NHS.

I work for a mental health support team based in schools (early intervention camhs) and deliver CBT and whole school approach to both students and families. Needs to be nationwide and embedded within homes and schools to be effective 💝

My son took his last year at 25 due to mental health ,the stigma in services also very much there and eye rolling by some where things are not understood ,cahms or crisis line will call you but thats ages too long, safe mental health hubs with plants ,calm lighting, sensory areas, walk and talk on hand counsellors ,action programme plans to support from straight away ,totally agree i advocate for people to talk so much now but there so many say there is no help and help should not have a price tag, everyone is worthy and deserves support through darkest times. @Dr Alex thank you for being a voice and a true representative,I truly would love to meet with you one day and talk and share ideas I have to make change ,much love 💚

All of this is pointless if there’s no communication between services and information sharing with family.

I lost a job due to poor mental health, potentially caused by a mental condition, ADHD. Having been referred by my GP after a consultation… a year and a half later I’m still yet to even receive an appointment date

100% Alex I’m so glad you’re talking about mental health, as someone myself who has struggled with depression and anxiety, it is so difficult to get the right help, the right support needs to be there

Alex you’re amazing, speaking from personal experience, I know early intervention for mental health is key, as someone who was diagnosed with an ED at 13 and a range of other mental health issues, that at the time I didn’t get the right support for which then led me to being hospitalised at 24, I think back and realise if I’d of had intervention and treatment back then I would’ve been able to cope and recover a lot easier

As a Counsellor, I hear all the talk about people needing mental health support but the reality is that unless they have money to pay privately then there is virtually nothing available to them. Alex, I know I don’t know you but I am so proud of the way that you speak out about these issues to try and improve things, it is needed SO much. Your brother would be so proud of you too, you are amazing, respect!!xx☺️☺️

You’re 💯 right, they say “talk about your mental health “ but when you do have the courage to talk, it takes way too long to see someone. Mental health crisis is not just mon-Fri 9-5 ❤️
