Also quickly elaborating on some things I said: 1. HYBE was experimenting with KATSEYE bc they are international and a lot of kpop companies hold international idols who aren’t of Korean (or Korean mixed with white) descent in low regard. They are disposable and expendable as a group- safe testing grounds. 2. HYBE does prioritize money, but they don’t do it well. They are thinking purely short term at this point in time, not taking into consideration just how much money they lose from the damage to their brands. Reputation is hard won, and HYBE is literally dumping theirs down the drain for short sided “gains”. 3. BTS getting their latest album messed with is particularly shocking bc you don’t mess with your moneymaker. This, to me, is the ultimate proof that HYBE’s downfall is inevitable. There were so many boldly stupid decisions from HYBE in this situation that really shows just how arrogant they are as a company. Keep in mind, people have lived with BTS as a group for several years due to military enlistment, and kpop thrives off of consistent parasociality. To mess up this badly with the album that was supposed to bring people back to BTS- a group associated with a certain level of quality- was beyond a blunder. They’re not gonna disband bc of it or anything like that but there’s a large portion of their potential (and former!) fan base that they turned away with this release. 4. HYBE is also overconfident due to their political and legal connections. However, those can’t be leveraged to make the general public care about skibidi toilet music. Like I said, overconfident!
