More common than you think. As a former manager I have personally assisted staff with transport to work. Either by picking them up or loaning them the money for a bus pass... As I have been there myself.

Bro best advice for backup - Get a CSCS card. You can get on a site the next day after you get it - minimum £13ph, tbf you will sit around £14ph, 9 hours paid a day. And paid weekly. Get this and use it as a back up. I’m going to be out on a job and we are going to need an extra labourer, only thing it’s 7days a week, 12 hours paid a day @ £16.50ph. You will take home £1050per week. Job is in Islington.

Boy this happened to me once. I went to work that day knowing I didn’t have the money get back home 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 just hope a prayer that I’d make commission to get back home. I didn’t. 😔

used to walk from new cross to Tottenham Hale and back everyday when I got a new job 12 years ago.. leaving at 6am to be there and 9.. sometimes I could. get the DLR to tower gateway to cut the journey in half but these are the times where inspectors were at every station.. didn't ever take a breaks as I had no money
