I do mortgage field services and find this story very hard to believe. I could see this being a possibility if the house was completely paid off, but since it went into foreclosure. The bank would have sent out a field service inspector several times to check for occupancy indicators, once deemed vacant and reported back to the bank, entry would have been made to change locks. Once the property went into foreclosure, the bank would have ordered the property to get prepared for sale. That would include repairs, lawn care, debris removals, etc.. and bi-weekly inspections to report repairs, then monthly vacancy inspections till the property sells.
