Not so fun fact, my family line apparently came over as mercenaries fighting on the side of the British in that war. When America won we just stayed in the country we fought against. I feel like the descendent of the enemy

They so don’t get that those rebelling the monarchy were usually the bigger cities liberal agnostic deists calling for liberty from a power over them. Many of the urban colonists were very much in favor of staying with the crown to not create trouble or simply not having any interest either way.

So out of curiosity how do you account for conservatives being the ones in favor of smaller federal government in many areas? They’re the ones who celebrated the overturn of roe v wade so it would go back to state-level mandates. They’re the ones who fought back against Covid/vaccination mandates, who support vaccination choice, support home schooling freedoms, and consistently argue in favor of 2nd amendment rights, in part to fight a tyrannical government if need be. Conservatives are known for being anti-big government because they see it as a threat to civil liberties, as did the founding fathers, so I’m just curious how you reconcile that as a known trait of conservatism with what you’re saying.
