@_bkind2all: Sharing the words of Jeannine Lee Lake from her original post, because on this holiday more than ever it's important to listen to and elevate the voices of people of color. .... "a group called Martinsville United is coming together to celebrate diversity this coming Friday, Juneteenth with a special event honoring the end of slavery in America and to bring increased awareness of African-American culture. The event will include speakers, poems, prayers from clergy and a keynote by me titled "The Black History of Martinsville and Why I Decided to Live Here." I've invited local leaders and officials and any and all people from the area. We are excited to plan this inaugural celebration and hope it will be an annual event." I wish you luck. But most Black folks I know (including myself) won't set footnin Martinsville based on the history of racism there. And especially the history of the klan there. But i love you are doing this for your community!! THIS is progress!!

Ashlee Engelhardt :
Is this Martinsville, IN? Good for you! We had a terrifying experience at the local high school there in 1997 when the community showed up to taunt and harass our black basketball players. I hope your community grows and learns to love instead of hate. Good job spreading this message
