when I put myself first, my ex told everyone in our small town that I cheated on him and he 100% believed he did nothing wrong. I let him believe it because there was no convincing him otherwise. I lost "friends" and the respect of a sibling, and i no longer feel "wanted" in that small town. But I wouldn't change the decision to leave him for anything. It was the best decision I ever made. I have found my soul mate and love my life now. It gets better. I promise you. It gets better.

I didn't realize what a burden I was carrying because of loyalty. when my marriage fell apart I went to therapy and the first thing my therapist told me was "one day you'll be grateful this happened" I thought she was crazy but NOW I realized she was right because I would still be there miserable convincing myself it was normal because of my loyalty to him. now I'm the happiest I've been in my adult life and at total peace. I wish you the same go to therapy and lean on your support group this too shall pass
