I am glad this tallies in the first theory with my own position. That it was indeed Samuel’s spirit allowed by God. And here lies the critical part unmentioned here: divine justice is absolute and mercy when we still under grace often prevents us from falling afoul of the law. Much like road side speed limit signs helping us to not over speed. But when we are out of grace we lose any such privilege and whatever wrong we set our hearts to is allowed to come to pass, compounding the wrath already upon us. God allowed this to happen in further completing and sealing the curse on Saul. 🙏
