Housing increased a lot due to interest rates being lowered to make a prez look good.

Thoughts on Warsh suggesting we modernize measurement methods? I like that idea a lot. The survey participation rate isn’t great and it misses important things.

Actually, the fed does not work for the USA. It works for the bond market.

But isn't inflation from tariffs different than inflation from too hot or an economy?

Too much money chasing too few goods - Econ 101. Cutting interest rates = inflation ⬆️

Warsh better damn well not be political. But, assuming that, the effectiveness of the Fomc is (going to be?) swamped by the debt and our idiotic fiscal policy.

Can we do a deep dive on how the Fed’s policy is inadequate to tackle supply side (inputs in this case oil, like the 1970s) inflation? The interest rate sure, can’t be decreased, but the solution to the inflationary effects could be handled otherwise.

The FED can lower interest rates for people who make less than 100k a year W2 and have mandatory higher interest rates for corporations. They have the ability and technology

You recently popped into my feed and I’m interested about tax policy- I think that your gist is that we need to increase revenue to provide social services that are helpful. It also seems like raising taxes is not politically durable. So what do you think the solution is?

Somewhat related to this video but I’ve always wanted to ask an economist why the Fed doesn’t tweak reserve ratio more often to fight inflation (like they do with interest rates). Seems like interest rate increase can be counterproductive to fight inflation in our current environment due to our enormous deficit.
