her mother was never understanding when it came down to lorelai but wanted to be there for rory so she didnt make mistakes lorelai did. but claimed she didnt know her daughter at all when she never gave lorelai the chance she’s always wanted, the bond she’s always wanted with her own mother.

I always find it odd when people say that Lorelai is a “bad daughter” because being a daughter/son isn’t a social role that comes with a set of responsibilities and expectations like being mother or father does. Emily was emotionally manipulative and never tried to understand Lorelai. One of the saddest moments, I think, is when Rory shows Emily the inn. Imagine your vulnerable teenager chooses to live in what is effectively a shed over staying in your big house and not using it as a moment of compassion and reflection.
