@baseballamerica: BREAKING: Details of a new MLB proposal to the MLBPA: No more high school draftees A shortened 12-round draft New international draft More from Baseball America: https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/mlb-seeks-sweeping-draft-overhaul-including-end-of-high-school-eligibility/
Should make intl players go to college or a professional development league till draft age then. Trading picks is pretty good tho.

We don’t need this we need a salary floor and a relegation system

I’m kind of new to baseball, so can someone explain to me if this goes through do the high school players have to go to college or do they just go to a minor league team?

Not a fan. Cutting the draft from 50 rounds to 20 to 12 is a great way to save money for owners.

In short, it saves money for all the teams in the league. If they pass the salary cap and floor, multiple small market teams need to double their spending over night, which many can’t do.

When you think about how many players bust out that’s not the worst thing. If they’re legit then one yr shouldn’t break them or their financials e their family

The only way this gets approved by the MLBPA is if the owners are willing to loose a season, they make it 20 for both American players and internationals and they drop the salary cap.

It would virtually ensure no more giant contracts by making it incredibly unlikely a player could reach 6 years of service time very young, at the age Soto, Guerrero, and others did. The biggest contracts have almost always been underpinned by the fact that the team would be getting a star player at 26 or 27. If you're mandated to be in college until you're 20 or 21 and teams can manipulate service time to effectively get a 7th year of control, the odds of a player being younger than 28 when he hits free agency would be tiny. And front offices agree that you turn back into a pumpkin at 30, so they would have successfully minimized big contracts (age 28 and 29) and eliminated monster deals.

It pushed the free agency start date back therefore smaller contracts because the players would be older
