ANDREW :
I completely agree with Felix Lee - thank you Felix for bringing these insights to the attention of our fellow Singaporeans.
I shared that same perception during my younger years. When I was doing my military service, I frequently visited Australia and New Zealand and even aspired to migrate there; I went as far as checking the requirements with the New Zealand and Australua Embassy in Singapore. However, due to my family circumstances as the sole breadwinner for two elderly parents, those plans did not materialize.
Over more than 30 years between 1990 and 2021, I held a regional role for APAC that required extensive travel across the globe. The only continent I have yet to visit is South America, but to be honest, I have no desire for this. While I enjoy mountains and lakes as holiday experiences that create wonderful memories, I have come to deeply appreciate Singapore as a first-world nation. Its efficiency and functionality mean more to me now than ever - especially as a 70-year-old.
For me, life in Singapore is a luxury, and I am grateful for everything the government has built. Since retiring five years ago, I have developed a daily rhythm - simple interesting routine never boring that allows me to fully enjoy what Singapore offers, particularly regarding health and healthspan.
Borned here and now aging gracefully I will not exchange predictibility over adventure, the simple over the complex, and contentment over the extravagance.
That said, I recognize this is strictly my personal experience and background; I certainly do not expect everyone to share similar view.
