you all have no empathy, and are so desensitised, it's insane. sure you can dislike the political side of russia, but it doesn't deserve to be bombed, the people living in those residential buildings didn't deserve to die either. it's disgusting that you're all saying they deserve it like no they don't 😭

"Not comfortable enough to speak out" is an interesting way to say that they started to care only when Ukraine brought war that they didn’t stop to them

low-key, as a Russian - being "proud" since 2022 is crazy. but I understand by the comments, that you don't really support that

I think it is pride and denial… I have tons of friends in Moscow as well (I’m from there as well) and what I noticed throughout the years is that it’s important for them to maintain an imagine of strong people and “unbothered” and to admit that things are not good in Moscow is not an option. They care about optics a lot! It’s also hard to admit for them that they should have left when the situation was less dramatic.

as a Russian living in Moscow you're right. At the beginning everyone seemed to support the war, which shocked me. There were some peace marches in a dozen cities including Moscow, but 1 they were of course suppressed and 2 the majority of the people actually supported the war. Then after the mobilisation in fall 2022 many people who were against the regime just left fearing the draft. But as I see now those people who used to be ignorant and just went on with their lives like nothing happened start to question the authorities because the war is coming to them and is more and more hard to ignore: raining oil, gas shortages, constant drone strikes, things getting more expensive etc. So I kinda feel there's not much of a reserved patience left tho knowing these people they can still support Putin and united Russia in all the elections like nothing happened, I just hope something changes.

nailed russian mentality. don’t speak up, keep it to yourself, endure and quietly hope you’ll get through. nobody likes a complainer, “enough negativity as it is”

it’s not correct I also have a friend from Moscow and it’s not about speaking up or feeling uncomfortable about it, she told me that after protests in Russian in the very beginning of the war, lots of people got in trouble and now it’s a federal offence to speak up or say anything negative about the war bc one can literally get behind the bars

btw btw. this all started because NATO was encroaching east. if russia had a military base in mexico a war would start immediately

how are they only now feeling bad? when it hits them finally? don't they have any empathy for other ppl who their government kills? like i have many ethnically russian friends but none of them support russia or live in russia so tbh i can't comprehend how you are friends with them? if they support russia killing innocent ppl?

I was in Moscow when the war broke out living in a mid-class suburb within the biggest ring while I did fieldwork for my dissertation. My Russian colleagues were out protesting near the kremlin (getting beaten by police, broken, cuncussed… it was brutal). In my suburb (near Ismailov park) it was any normal day. No one was even talking about it. Like nothing was actually happening. Very strange experience.

when putin falls it will not be because he caused suffering to russians it will be because he lost the war and russians will be offended by this fact
