@9yearsateacher: After 9 years of teaching, I completely understand why people focus on the 180 school days. I just wish more people understood everything that happens outside of them too. #formerteacher #teacher #teachertok #teachersummer
They don’t see me going directly to a second job and working 12 hrs/day during the school year & all summer.

So you mean the same thing every other salaried person in any career field does.. except they do actually full time.

I don’t work outside of contract hours. I take nothing home. It can be done! Best job ever for me! ❤️

I only work my contract hours and I won't spend my own money on my job.

Even this doesn’t really get the heart of the issue. People that work in an office do not have to be constantly attentive in the same way that teachers are nurses have to

To be more specific, we are PAID for 180 days. The rest of the time isn’t vacation, it’s unpaid time off

Many times we’re working overtime all the time . Many of us go in on Saturdays , go to PDs , or volunteer after school events.

180 but add the 6 extra hours a day…

If you calculate the number of hours worked in those 180 days, it's more than what someone works at a regular 9-5 job.

In my district, we work 200 days a year. Plus all of the unpaid things we do. It’s insane.

We have openings! You too can “work” only 187 days a year!! But be warned, it is NOT an 8-3 five day a week gig. It’s A LOT of extra after hours work!!!

That’s why we should stop doing all that extra work.

Being a teacher isn’t just student facing time. The prep time to entertain and educate 120 students a day doesn’t occur during that student facing time. It occurs after or before or at night. So a teacher workday isn’t just 8-3.

I only get paid for working 187 days. It’s not like we are getting paid for the days we don’t work.
