Why are you making things more difficult for yourself? . There is already a rubber connector. Why not just replace the elbow everything above it is already ABS or PVC. Don’t make sense.

Plumber here. Every video I see of someone doing a trade job. Everyone is always like “Why didn’t you just replace everything???” “Why didn’t you just do ‘this’ or ‘that’???” Do y’all think every client can just drop thousands or 10s of thousands? All we can do is inform the client of the overall issue. But it’s ultimately up to whatever the client can afford to move forward with.

that cast iron should have been removed and all made PVC. no reason to just have the elbow cast and everything else PVC. just so it takes longer and he can charge more.

Always use a water soluble lubricant on these type of gaskets the permanent seal is formed once it’s dried up between the gasket and the pipe

Why not just a fernco? Make a cut/snap and put the fernco on.
