It's so true. I didn't realise how true it was for me until recently, it makes me wonder if that's why i had so much trouble in university. But i was diagnosed a good 10 years after i had to drop out.

I'm 37, going through assessments with my daughter. going through those assessments made me see where she got it from so to speak. 35+ years of masking and covering my trauma, hit a massive burnout 2 years ago and regressed so much. only just now feeling myself. I'm sure no one really cares about that but a nice long comment might help push this video to more people's feeds 💚

It wasn’t until my late 30s when I discovered I maybe Autistic and have ADHD. So much makes sense now, but there just isn’t enough support or understanding in society.

this is an amazing post, The raises the age-old issue of trying to make everyone fit the same mould. Not only neurodivergence but everyone. at school, everyone's forced to study the same subjects despite their strengths and weaknesses and everyone is judged based on the same exams, again, despite their strengths and weaknesses . this continues into adulthood as people are treated the way they were taught in school and employers often fail to recognise the strengths in their teams and therefore never get the best results.

A beautiful illustration on what we as Autistic people have to go through to fit in. Max, even at my age (47) I still break myself to fit in. And both my children who have ASD do the same. Masking is exhausting. 💜

This is so true! I wish I could like this video more than once! I’m slowly learning I don’t need to fit in, it feels a bit like I’m the odd one out, but I feel a lot more relaxed, like myself and happy.

I'm about to cry because it is true. Started masking as a kid and now I don't even know how I am out of the mask. because u haven't been safe enough to be allowed out of it. So now I am masking 24/7 even when i'm alone at home with nobody seeing me. 🥹
