Countries that called themselves “communist” were at best in the socialist stage. They use the label aspirationally, but have never reached the goal(communism). So judging the idea of communism based on other countries attempts is like judging a cake by the unbaked batter. Meanwhile capitalism is just raw ingredients people exploit for wealth.

this is why I'm so intrigued to see what Mamdani does in New York during his term as Mayor. I've been a big fan of his progress in the time he has been mayor. If we can watch that man succeed in real time, in an economic crisis, with one of the biggest cities in the country, that proves that in full scale socialism can and DOES work. Not on paper, but in practice.

Hey I like your video so far. I had to stop where you started talking about history but I'll finish it soon. I just wanted to throw a comment in here before I start this job and maybe we can have a fun conversation. So first off your totally right that every time socialism or communism popped up around the world capitalist coutries would interfere and that's not fair. However the biggest problem that I see with socialism and communism is not that it can't work because it could. The problem is that it's too dangerous. Those economic systems combine the economy with the government and give way too much power to the people currently in charge of that government. Socialism and communism both can work but they work through oppression. I don't want to drag this one post on too long so please let me know if you'd like me to explain.

the United States has never intervened in or attempted to sabotage Norway's socialist or social democratic policies. In fact, the two nations have maintained a close political alliance as founding members of NATO, built on mutual cooperation and shared security interests in the region.

I like that young people are having these conversations. We should be able to have them. That being said, saying capitalism is bad is just as dumb as saying communism is bad or socialism is bad. They are systems that can be evaluated on their merits. You cannot argue that capitalism hasn’t had extremely great outcomes for billions of people. At the same time, unchecked capitalism has had terrible effects on those who fall through the cracks. IMO, you need a blend of socialism and capitalism. But the people have to be willing to share some of their successes with those that fare poorly or the system falls apart.

My other issue with this conversation is that people always criticize communism by citing examples of communism that were authoritarian, as if it isn’t possible that the issue with these societies was the form of government instead of the economic ideology.

I studied political science and international relations and came out a raging socialist. I love your videos because you do a great job explaining the history and tenets of socialism and communism without getting too far into the weeds of theory (in the way other creators do). Well done!

The phrases “socialism doesn’t work” or “look what happened to Cuba” is such a tired argument. Although mistakes were made during Soviet times, the previous arguments people constantly bring up assume that we can not learn from our mistakes and improve upon them
