Aang’s character is so overlooked for two reasons; Zuko’s character arc outshining it, and because they see aang as goofy. Aang is honestly one of the most compelling characters i’ve ever seen. He is so well written, in fact he’s as well written as Zuko. His trauma is unbearable weight, especially when: you learn you’re supposed to be the protector of the world in your teenage years when that’s literally the part in your life when you’re supposed to LIVE / the world blames you for ruining away while not being able to process it still / learn that your entire culture was wiped out by the fire nation and you still choose to defeat its ruler with mercy / and when you try to have fun and fall in love, people start blaming you and telling you that you need to get to work and fix everything. Man, Aang’s traits if being string and powerful isn’t what makes him a great protagonist, but his shift of becoming a fully realised avatar at such an early age and having and unbearable weight on your shoulders. Learning all elements and mastering them in under a year, isn’t supposed to sound cool, it’s supposed to be our way to understand that aang gave his all to redeem himself. But again when it comes to redemption we all just see Zuko cause he shifted from bad to good. But honestly Zuko was never bad, and this is what i mean when i say both aang and Zuko are equally well written. Zuko was looking for a purpose to redeem himself for something he wasnt wrong to do, his search for honour was twisted, his arc is a reverse to aang’s. Aang knew his purpose, but wasn’t ready to face it. This is why so many episodes are dedicated to both of them; “the storm”, “the blue spirit”, “the awakening”, literally “the avatar and the firelord”. Aang’s and Zuko’s arcs are complementary, and they’re both work so well, but unfortunately with all due respect, the majority of the fanbase of atla, are immature to look at aang as an overall character. They only see him as a powerful bender, and zuko as the handsome redeemed man who “should’ve been the real main character”. Aang is an amazing protagonist, whom his fans aren’t worthy of him (talking about the korra glazers)

Because of the light hearted nature of the show. A lot of people overlook a lot of these traumatic moments

Korra gets an entire season dedicated to her trauma, Aang can't even get a serious episode. Now let's talk about biased.

this is a big problem with aang's writing (and the fact that his problems and conflicts are resolved with deus ex machinas but anyway) the show never takes aangs problems with seriousness, they do this: aang: omg i am so sad about this topic the show: I am going to make you mention like 3 times in the entire show and make jokes about it. 😂 so people who watch the show don't take it seriously

its a kids show the entire thing thay makes this one of the best TV shows in the history of thr world is the fact you can watch it as a kid and enjoy the comedic and action parts and come back as an adult and disect the things you missed as a kid. No reason to "hate" it

Oh that’s bc it a cartoon so they can write and animated it with whatever tone they want. Plus the target audience was kids/preteens so making it incredibly serious wouldn’t be necessary or keep the attention of a lot of the kids watching it.

what i love about aang is that he's so self-aware. if he can't do something, he recognizes it; he knows his abilities and limitations. however, when someone else encourages him, when someone tells him he's capable, aang gets the drive. i love how he's not the typical "hero" who's obsessed with doing everything alone and doing everything perfectly. aang does it his way, and it's perfect.
