Weren't flour bags that manufacturers put designs on them since people were using them to make clothes out of during the Depression? like, not a new thing

I’m obsessed with people who take old kid’s bedding and turn it into dresses and coats and stuff. They’re so cute and nostalgic and I yearn for something like that of my own but alas I do not like sewing 😂

Also, as a fashion history nerd, we learn so much more from dresses that were remade three times and stuffed under the floorboards to use as insulation than the pristine gowns people wore once and saved forever. Not just about how fashion changed over time but also about how people lived. That mass produced dress that you cut up to make into a romper? Is actually more valuable to future historians now than it would have been if they dug it out of a landfill two hundred years from now completely untouched.

My great grandmother is 97 years old and I always ask her about her past and she barely remembers but she is so strong, born in 1929! Crazy

I'm collecting my kid's favourite shirts, when he grows out of them, so I can make them into a patchwork blanket 😊 He's getting it, when he turns 18 as a salute to his childhood

I absolutely love upcyling my clothes, when things stop fitting I never get rid of them I just adjust and modify and make it look prettier while making it fit (picture is some old jeans from like freshman year of highschool that I’m upcyling)

Flour sacks quite literally were printed with a pattern to be turned into dresses/other articles of clothing

Old saying. Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without. Words to live by for sure.

Literally everyone did this for all of clothed history! Fabric was expensive! If it was out of style cut it up!
