My GenZ 24 yr old has been laid off twice since he graduated with an accounting degree in ‘24. My daughter with a master’s in environmental biology makes $20/hr. Why would these kids have loyalty to their companies? They are treated as disposable and that is what they have learned.

I manage an entire team of 90% Gen Z. It’s not that hard really. Just give them a mission to complete, give them room to be themselves, set guardrails, and they’ll fly.

as a millenial im so grateful for the powerful stance gen z is taking in the workplace. they are acting 100% appropriate to what theyre being offered, and all generations will benefit from their modern approach

The issue is pay vs cost of living. Can you really say to someone "you just dont want to work" or "you have no initiative" when they can't even afford to live off the pay they recieve?? No, you can't. Why would anyone be happy and motivated to give 40-50 hours/week and have nothing to show for it?? Most people are struggling to put food on the table much less save, invest, or even think about planning a vacation. There is no reward for hard work anymore so dont expect people to work hard.

Let’s filter those answers by how much they’re paying these workers.

hi Gen Z. I'm a manger managing gen Z. they are my hardest working employee ever. its because from day one I treat them like a human. like they have been working there for years. they get respect right away. and I get it back 10 fold. I ask they do without question. even if they do have questions I will away explain it to them and make sure when know why it is what they are doing. even if it seem stupid. often they suggest better ideas in who to do stuff and I take it with great pride. knowing my team will get done what I need them to get done

Gen Z is so talented. I see so many employees who can't handle them because they're out of touch with reality. They're good workers but they don't wanna live at their job.

If we were paid enough to live then we would work a lot better but we’re basically working for nothing

I think managers need to understand how to manage managers or do their job correctly. It’s not even about the employees. It’s about the fact that no one knows how to manage the position and then they complain about the employees like it’s their problem.

Are we hard to manage or do we refuse to manage ourselves and go “above and beyond” for companies that will cut us the fastest no matter our production. No matter what we do there is no reward system for going above and beyond there are no raises the wages we’re given are barely liveable as is. Now you want us to stay late and do more with no incentive ? Burn ourselves out for

well maybe jobs need to change to accommodate the changing workforce
let's start by increasing pay, giving benefits, more days off (including paid leave and vacations)

no because, if my job starts at 9 I'm clocking in at 9. If you want me there at 8:45 I'm clocking in at 8:45 and getting paid those extra 15 minutes

My parents had to help me pay rent when I had a job at Morgan and Morgan. They had a policy that you couldn’t work any amount of overtime without prior approval so if I clocked in 5 minutes early I’d clock out 5 minutes early…they told me to stop doing that and instead if I come in early just to sit at my desk don’t clock in just wait till my scheduled time…yall don’t even pay enough to have a place to live 😭

I wish I could figure out the solution. We need to hire people, but are finding more than more people, hoping to work as little as possible to not get fired. The lack of any kind of motivation is difficult to work with.
