Any foul in that situation is a red, however I think he had a real chance to stop the ball and make a clean tackle. Personally love the defenders effort and confidence to get there. Barely a foul, but a red foul nonetheless.

Everyone who is saying how or surprised by a red in the comments is pmo. It was a 1v1 goal scoring opportunity with the keeper and he was taken down by the ankles after the defender didn’t touch the ball at all . Straight red no question

Any time you interfere with the ball carrier as the last defender, as such, like slide tackling them, it’s a red card. You pretty much took the scoring opportunity from the opposing team. Which USUALLY results in a pk but if it’s outside the 18yrd box it’s a free kick with minus one person on the opposing team for the rest of the match. Aka. If they have a fair break-away you gotta let em have it or make a clean tackle not from behind.
