I think it’s fine to dog ear pages if you want. I just wouldn’t do my books like that. I don’t see a point when there’s so many cute and fun bookmarks to use.

Books are to be READ and USED, not perfectly preserved with no one touching them. The sign a book has lived a good life and done its job is wear and tear.

If it’s MY book I’m dog earing the shit out of it. “But it damages the page!” So? Who cares the a half inch corner of a few pages are slightly creased? Not me, and you know why that matters? Cuz it’s MY BOOK. They’re meant to be read and enjoyed not look pretty on your shelf.

I agree that if I own the book I can do whatever I want to it. Now a library book? Bookmarks always. Also old book/new book, are we talking about when it was written or if it’s a used book vs new book? Because I do like the feel of a brand new book but I also like the smell of vintage books.
