@straighttalk2026: Concerning estrangement, if a mother is a lesbian is it more difficult for her to get her child back with her than it is a straight mother? In general, no. A mother being lesbian, by itself, does not make reconciliation with an estranged child inherently more difficult than it is for a straight mother. What matters most in estrangement is usually: The history of the relationship – Was the child emotionally safe, heard, and respected? Accountability – Is the parent willing to acknowledge mistakes without defensiveness? Respect for boundaries – Can the parent accept the child's pace and wishes? Consistent change – Does the parent demonstrate healthier behavior over time? Empathy – Can the parent understand the child's experience, even if they disagree with it? However, sexual orientation can sometimes become part of the estrangement story in certain families. For example: If the child struggled to accept the mother's sexual orientation because of religious or cultural beliefs, reconciliation may involve working through those conflicts. If the mother felt rejected or judged because she is lesbian, she may carry hurt that complicates communication. If the mother's coming out was accompanied by other family disruptions—such as divorce, infidelity, secrecy, or major changes in family dynamics—the child may be responding to those experiences rather than to her sexual orientation itself. Research has generally found that children of lesbian parents can have healthy, loving relationships with their parents and fare as well emotionally and socially as children of heterosexual parents. The factors that predict reconciliation are much more closely related to the quality of the relationship, communication, accountability, and mutual respect than to the parent's sexual orientation. In estrangement, a lesbian mother and a straight mother face the same central challenge: rebuilding trust. Trust is usually restored through humility, empathy, patience, and sustained change—not through who the parent loves. #nocontact #whitneygoodman #doormatmom #estranged #estrangedfamilies
