@mrphoenixgrey: Cheap outdoor funriture can look good, but wont last, and some of the expensive ones only focus on the aesthetic. Depending on where you live, your patio set is essentially going up against the sun, wind, rain, and possibly snow, all of which have one job: to absolutely destroy your furniture as fast as possible. And honestly? They're good at it. Finding outdoor pieces that actually look good and survive more than a single season feels like a scavenger hunt nobody signed up for. So here are the rules I follow: Built-in drainage. Water that sits is water that ruins. Non-negotiable. Hardier, solution-dyed fabrics with UVA/UVB protection. If the cushion fabric can't handle the sun, your furniture is just an expensive countdown clock. Elevated off the ground. The closer to the ground, the closer to moisture, pests, and everything else nature is quietly plotting against your investment. Follow those three and you've already lapped 90% of people who bought something because it looked cute in a showroom and then watched it warp, fade, and fall apart by September. Outdoor furniture is an investment. Treat it like one.

You should reference terms like powder coating, welded seems and polyresin in relation to longevity. Not all are created equal.

Why is like 90% of outdoor furniture that nasty plastic wicker? I’ve found very few sets that fit what I’m looking for that aren’t plastic BS

location drives material choice. SF needs are diff than Palm Springs, and covered patio needs are different than open sky by the pool.

For outdoor, I will use teak furnitures, regardless rain or shine, the quality is preserved.

Installed a custom outdoor wooden circular banquette at a country club in the Bay Area of cali. Fabricated in Dallas. A couple moths after install we get an email saying the banquette EXPLODED. A little dramatic but it did puff up a lot and the hardware ripped out of their sockets. Spent months dealing with this with the vendor to finally having to replace them completely with pc metal frames. Moral of the story: be careful of what you put outdoors near seawater especially wood.

We bought a set of plastic chairs in a nice shade of green for our Palm Springs home. We treated them with a uv spray. One year later and they are faded terribly. (There wasn’t an easy way to shade them considering they are around a fire pit.) I guess the next ones will be white.

I love the look of wicker, but it really isn’t the best for any number of reasons. You can find tons of pieces of the old black wrought iron on marketplace and it is so good. Cushions are replaceable but if you keep it clean and painted it’s forever. Wish I could afford teak—and it’s great if you keep it oiled. Too windy up on our hill for umbrellas, but I think I’d like to try one of those steel pergolas with the louvers on top. Might work.

You rock! My thoughts exactly about water. I'm OCD about anything retaining water. You are so intelligent, I learn a lot from you. Thank you again!❤️
