There comes a moment that every soul must face. The strongest king, the poorest servant, the scholar, the child, the traveler, and the worshipper all stand before the same reality. Allah says: «"Every soul shall taste death."» For the believer who spent their life striving to please Allah, death is not the end. It is the beginning of a beautiful journey towards eternal peace. As the final moments approach, Allah does not abandon His righteous servant. The Prophet ﷺ informed us that angels with radiant faces descend from the heavens. Their faces shine like the sun, bringing with them a shroud and fragrance from Jannah. They sit near the believer, filling the room with mercy that cannot be seen by human eyes. The Angel of Death then approaches gently and calls out: «"O peaceful soul, come out to the forgiveness of Allah and His pleasure."» Unlike the soul of the wicked, which is extracted with hardship, the soul of the righteous believer leaves the body with ease, just as a drop of water slips from the mouth of a vessel. The angels immediately receive this blessed soul. They wrap it in the heavenly shroud and perfume it with the fragrance of Paradise. A scent more beautiful than any perfume known on earth begins to surround it. As the angels ascend through the heavens, every group of angels they pass asks: "Who is this beautiful soul?" The angels reply with the best names by which the person was known in this world. The gates of the heavens are opened for them, and every level of heaven welcomes this believing servant until Allah commands: "Record My servant's book in the highest ranks and return him to the earth, for from it I created them, to it I return them, and from it I will raise them again." Even before entering Jannah, the believer begins to taste its peace. In the grave, Allah grants firmness to those who believed. When questioned, they answer with certainty: "My Lord is Allah." "My religion is Islam." "My Prophet is Muhammad ﷺ." Then the grave expands as far as the eye can see. A window is opened toward Paradise. Its breeze, light, and fragrance enter continuously. A man with a beautiful face, fine clothing, and a pleasant scent comes to the believer. He says: "I am your righteous deeds." How comforting it is to realize that every sincere prayer, every tear shed in repentance, every act of charity, every moment of patience, every hidden dhikr, every verse of the Qur'an recited, and every hardship endured for Allah was never forgotten. The believer then longs for the Day of Judgment, saying: "My Lord, establish the Hour so that I may return to my family and my reward." This is the honor prepared for those who lived with sincerity, repented often, trusted Allah during hardship, lowered their gaze, guarded their prayers, remembered Him in private, and sought His pleasure above all else. Death, for such people, is not defeat. It is reunion. It is relief after every hardship. It is the first step toward seeing what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and what no human heart can fully imagine. May Allah make our final words: "Lā ilāha illā Allāh, Muhammadur Rasūlullāh." May He send His angels with glad tidings when our time comes. May He make our graves gardens from the gardens of Jannah. May He forgive our shortcomings, accept our deeds, grant us a beautiful ending (ḥusn al-khātimah), and gather us among the righteous under His mercy.
