i’m not entirely sure here? given the actual authors own premise on their relationship, they’re based on his own friends relationship that is meant to show, as he had described it as “it serves as a symbol of male friendship.” esp because we know that within any capacity Griffith has a hard time accepting intimacy and affection himself without it being funneled through transactional means or a way to feel powerful. we know that canonically griffith wanted to be wanted, to be the one people adored and looked to, and not someone who was helpless.

I’m so glad you understand the fountain talk! Too many people think Griffith was being sincere! I love the tragic irony of Guts’ efforts in becoming more like Griffith’s ideal man actually caused Griffith to feel rejected by Guts.
