canadian here. they aren't trying to be rude. it's just a regional difference. you're welcome can often feel formal - no problem, don't sweat it, anytime, of course, etc all mean the exact same thing.

in America, your welcome can be the ruder saying, because it implies that it was something that deserved thanks this is why we say "mmhm" or "of course" because it tells the person it was not trouble and makes you more humble sounding

Saying “of course” means that us helping someone is natural and expected. Saying “you’re welcome” implies that you did something that deserves thanks
