the real reason people hate him is partly because of what he did and also because he is the exact opposite of steve..

Realistically John’s never actually wrong about anything. Even the dude he killed was a super powered terrorist and was still well within the US’s rules of engagement.

Honestly it was dumb to try and replace Steve as Cap like bro was a one of a kind like there wasn’t anyone that could even come close to what he was and that’s including falcon like he was close but he wasn’t Steve rogers simple as that so it’s kinda sad that Walker was held to that standard when it just wasn’t realistic for him to do

Honestly this show was so poor for trying to treat him like he was wrong. He was human, but they treated him awfully. Sam had work with veterans saw how ptsd affected them, yet he treated John like shit. He treated the terrorist better than he did him.

People forget John Walker didn’t steal the shield or ask for it, he was chosen by the government after Sam willingly gave it up. He accepted the role because his country asked him to, and he had the résumé to back it up: multiple Medals of Honor, years of combat experience, and a proven record of leadership. Before everything went wrong, he repeatedly tried to work with Sam and Bucky, but they dismissed him from day one simply because he wasn’t Steve Rogers. Then the government handed him impossible expectations, offered almost no support, and abandoned him the moment he failed. What he did to the Flag Smasher was wrong, but it happened moments after watching his best friend get killed, while under the influence of the super soldier serum that amplifies a person’s existing emotions. That explains his actions without excusing them. The real proof of who Walker is comes later, when he gives up his chance for revenge to save innocent civilians. Steve Rogers was an ideal, but John Walker was a flawed soldier who was set up to fail and unfairly became everyone’s punching bag.
