Igniting on a solar panel-covered roof, the blaze breached an ammonia line. (They blacked out my pictures again! Time of Origin: The fire was reported just before 2:30 p.m..Cause & Escalation: The fire originally sparked on the rooftop solar panel system. As firefighters battled the flames, an internal ammonia line ruptured, causing several minor explosions and forcing crews to retreat to defensive and aerial tactics.Response & Containment: More than 130 LAFD firefighters and water-dropping helicopters responded. The fire's spread was halted by late afternoon, and the visible roof blaze was extinguished.Community Impact: A mandatory shelter-in-place order covered Eastside neighborhoods, with about 70 local residents evacuated from two streets. The order and evacuations were officially lifted by 8:45 p.m.Air Quality: Although air regulators detected elevated particulate levels, air monitoring revealed no dangerous ammonia spikes.
