Hand sewing is so much more precise and versatile. I use the machine when I need long straightforward seams but whenever I need details or needing to hide the stitches I reach out for the needle

idk, it is kinda weird question to begin with. some people like to make garments. some people like to sew. it is like asking why someone doing embroidery when machine can do it, or asking what do with picture afterwards. people like the process!

it’s so interesting seeing other perspectives cause i LOVE handsewing bc i watch tv while i sew!! getting to work while sitting on the couch watching the crown is such a treat compared to sitting at the industrial machine bored out of my mind

There are also certain things you CANNOT do on a machine!! I will always prefer a hand felled seam or a hand finished lining or hem to a machine finished seam or lining! It just looks better to me

As a costumer for theater productions, I hand sew because machines cannot do what I do in terms of tiny alterations, nips, tucks, repairs, hook and eye clasps, not to mention repairs or reconstruction of vintage tutus, skirts, Bodices, corsets, veils, laces, shawls, bonnets, hats, hat pieces, and SO many other intricate works.

I just hand sewed a blind hem on pants because it was kinda easier than doing it by machine (it never comes out right by machine) and honestly was probably faster than doing it by machine, messing up, and having to unpick it

personally i have the worst habit of nail biting and picking but having something to do helps me tremendously. whether it’s crochet/knit/embroidery/sewing i always want to be being something to keep my hands distracted. i am a firm believer everyone to should have some sort of hobby to help regulate and calm yourself :) plus you can make some really cool stuff 😛

there's also such a difference in the care you have when handling the finished product, there's a reverence in holding a hand stitched object where you wouldn't have a second thought with a machine made piece
