I feel a great sense of joy knowing there are people preserving art in this way. Princess Mononoke is a masterpiece.

How valuable is a poster like this and how much does it cost to restore it? Just curious how worth it it is.

Watching the artist repair that rip made me tear up. Art restoration is healthcare.

John Ohkuma :
American immigrant in Japan since 1997: In the US, the quality of paper products like posters fell significantly with the dawn of the internet, but here in Japan paper and anything you might think to look for in a book or stationary store in 'the old days' in the US is still very much alive and well, including of course posters. So I'm not surprised at all that this late 90s poster from Japan is one such example of quality that has disappeared in the US. Movie theaters here also sell all sorts of movie souvenirs and memorabilia such as books and magazines about the movies which are likewise high quality. In fact, especially a classic like this, I would bet I could go to a shopping mall right now and get もののけ姫 goods, perhaps even that poster, new.

If you didn’t see the damage, you would never know that it has been restored. You can’t see were the damaged was it’s done so well. If I didn’t see it being repaired I would have thought it was a copy that was damaged replacing it.

I had to keep looking between the before/after to be able to see where exactly the touched up areas were, it really does look seamless :0 I hope y’all keep getting lots of clients & can keep this kind of craftsmanship alive, it’s so nice to see experts work
