We require parts to be paid for before we order them. I’m sitting on roughly $200,000 in parts of people changing their minds after we order so yeah I now make everyone pay for parts before I order.

I’m a painting contractor. I don’t provide onsite estimates to new customers. In my experience they’re going to hire the low bidder no matter what. Onsite visits are a waste of time. If they decide to hire me I require a 10% non refundable deposit to schedule a start date. Then once I’m 50% complete I require another 40% payment. Once the projects 90% complete I require the other 50% to be paid. It’s mandatory to waste as little time as possible and get as much money as you can out the customer asap. The more you get the more leverage you have. If you don’t get deposit and progress payments and the job ends and they owe you 100% balance? They could screw you 😂

Yep.I fix appliances.If I don’t get a parts deposit more times than not when the part comes in suddenly they changed their mind or magically the part that was in pieces fixed itself.I don’t care if you don’t want to do the repair just don’t take up a spot on my schedule that I could be making money.🙄
