The fact scenes like this show Drax is masking 90% of the time. His outbursts and bluster aren't entirely who he is, they are projections of a man who has lost everything and doesn't want to show it.

Seeing mantis feel her first deep deep emotion and understanding what being a good parent is and how drax feels lowing his ONE child instantly showed her shes on the wrong side. Drax wasnt even trying and his grief for his daughter and wife completely rewrote mantis at a core level.
