@doctorhamzamd: 6 years of medical training, including 3 years in Neurology, changed the way I think about the brain—but the biggest lessons weren’t about medicine. They were about attention, habits, environment, and the small decisions that quietly shape your life. I wish I had learned these sooner. Hopefully they save you a few years.

Lesson learned way too late: recovery is as important as productivity. Burnout is real and it sucks.

I would get “canceled” for this if I ever breathed a word of it in real life but after spending a third of my life battling mental illness, the only thing that actually caused remission was reverting to Islam. Medications and therapy can only go so far in a soul with no meaning and no discipline. I’ve been Muslim for 7 years now alhamdulilah and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. Allah tells us to stay away from things that are appealing in the short term but harmful long-term, and tells us to do things that are hard in the moment but better off long term.
