Ultimately, it doesn't really matter what your reasoning is. It's your body. I can appreciate wanting to be a bit of a pioneer, though. Especially with the hand you've been dealt, it's admirable to want to see what improvements can be made in the field.

Obviously it’s a much smaller scale, but this is exactly why I’m so open to having medical students observe (and sometimes even help!) my appointments. They have to learn somehow. Medical advancements have to be made somehow. If I can have even a small hand in that, that’s really freaking cool!!!! God forbid I’m ever diagnosed with something life threatening or life altering, you bet your booty I’m going to do what I can to make sure other patients in the future have the best options available to them, even if it means trying something that still in trials

Hi I’m a young engineer and for about a decade now I’ve been FASCINATED with dynamic robotics(robots that move) and it’s my dream to make affordable and well articulated prosthetics. I think it’s very cool that you were willing to go about the surgery because being willing to sacrifice so much give us engineers the ability to apply what we want to study in real world applications. It helps us make advancements in our ability to help people. Ur so cool and thank you again

My baby brother had his leg amputated all the way to the hip , (no femur anymore) which is a rare amputation as well and it has been a whole process to get a prosthetic leg

Technical question: do you have to build upper arm strength/ musculature in order to support the future prosthetic? I imagine that its weight and gravity in general could cause some reaction or strain on your upper arm. I'm a retired RN, fascinated by this process and very excited for you. Thank you

You are a pioneer. That there are people judging you for this is WILD - it is YOUR body. Even if you wanted to do it for 1/4 of the reason you want to, they need to mind their fucking business 😭. Live your best life girl, I'm glad you're advocating for yourself and hope a cool attachment to the existing one is developed shortly: they've done some great things with bionic limbs in the last decade.
