As someone who works at a dental office. I would recommend coco floss or any expandable floss.

I’m a dentist and there is a small genetic component but a huge amount of it is caused by snacking too often (not necessarily quantity of sugar), not flossing correctly or enough, rinsing toothpaste off after brushing, brushing technique etc. Another big part of it is going to the dentist regularly so that small cavities can be identified and reversed in time, once it enters dentine it can’t be reversed.

Once the tooth is damaged there’s nothing u can do . Root canal or implant

If you don’t get root canal your tooth will eventually crash and will need to be pulled out. So choose this or extraction and implant.

My hygenist told me that using my water pick shouldn’t replace regular flossing and do to both

genuinely don’t blame yourself for the cavities. some people are just more genetically prone to them. you could have the exact same diet and dental hygiene as someone else and u get cavities but they don’t.

there is 100% a genetic element- there are different levels of caries risks. different people have different pH levels/biological contents in their saliva/ ect which control how the fast cavity bacteria can grow or stick around in your mouth . so there are people out there who can have perfect hygiene and still be high caries risk!

i’d also get a second opinion from another dentist, some dentists are really “proactive” with fillings (doing them when they aren’t necessarily needed)

Yes I think genetics because I don’t eat sweet food much and I’m good at cleaning and I still needed a root canal. I got one 10 years ago and it’s still fine

If your tooth is hurting after a filling the nerve might be damaged beyond repair

Dentist here ✨
a cavity can only be "reversed" if it is in it's initial stages, if the cavity is in dentin, close to the nerve it can have a filling with it's propper cavity base and liner for the tooth not be sensitive to the filling. If it is already infecting the nerve, the only option is a root canal or an extraction of the tooth. I would save My tooth with a well done root canal.
