Yes but the LA mayor has limited power due to the Los Angeles city charter, which intentionally disperses authority. The structure creates a "weak mayor" system to prevent corruption, dividing executive and legislative responsibilities while creating a highly bureaucratic and decentralized form of local government. We voted for this so even if Nithya wins, she won’t be able to do much. It won’t be a Mamdani moment
