@sama.survives: I am pro choice, this is not about individuals choices, but a dangerous rhetoric being publicly spread @artsyhoneybee you are spreading is a threat to the disabled community. If you are truly a “leftist” you would listen to disabled people and take your video down. It’s clear you are not well educated on disability theory, rights, or history. Listen to the disabled people who know what they are talking about, when we say you are endangering us. You are threatening our safety and wellbeing. You are being discussed in our spaces, many of us are SCARED of you. It’s not too late to take down your video and post an apology, speaking about what we have taught you instead. #ableism #disability #disabled #education #disabilityadvocate

Her saying it’s mean to bring a disabled child into the world is the exact reason why it’s hard to live as a disabled person, if she willingly wanted to make the lives of disabled people better she would be advocating for the rights of disabled folks

And then she goes on to list how she helps disabled people so she knows our experience. Like, you have the mindset that has kept us away from society and haven’t even acknowledged that but used the “I’m a caretaker card”. My caretaker can NEVER speak for my life with my disability. He can only speak for his life as a caretaker.

That Dog Guy :
it is a subject that requires an incredible amount of nuance, I'm disabled, I've made a personal choice not to have kids because of the specific hereditary disabilities I have, because I dont feel like its fair to possibly pass them on to a child, but this isnt a choice that applies to everyone, ultimately the person with the disability knows best what its like to live with it, and whether or not they have kids is entirely their choice, thats not eugenics, we start to get into eugenics territory when we start making blanket statements about all disabled people and what they should or shouldn't be doing, and who should or shouldn't have kids, its not mean to pass on a disability to a child, its mean to put your nose where it doesn't belong and try to make decisions for people who dont need your opinion, and make them feel bad for wanting a child.

I don’t understand this rhetoric bc disabled people still enjoy life. How can we reduce disabled suffering? Maybe we can try to improve our ableist society, better the quality and access of medical care, or idk actually listen to disabled voices? We can’t irradicate disability; I don’t want to die!

THANK YOU. I’m disabled. My biggest dream is to have children, raise children, teach children. I’m currently a teacher’s assistant. I’m so tired of people telling me I’m terrible for wanting a child knowing I MAY pass on my disability

Also, so much focus in these conversations is placed on the caregivers and/or family members of disabled children. How taxing it is *for them* emotionally, physically, financially, etc. And I'm not saying that acknowledging the struggles of caregivers and family members of disabled children isn't important; it is. But, newsflash: Congenitally disabled children exist. And we internalize how abled family members, peers, and adults in general view and speak about us from a very young age. Reducing the personhood of a disabled child down to the ways they impact (and, most commonly, 'burden' those around them) is abhorrent. We are not thought experiments. We are not talking points. We are human beings who grow into disabled adults. These abled people are so ignorant, selfish, and demeaning- it's unreal. I will be pro-choice forever, but these conversations have largely morphed into jumping-off points for abled people to grandstand about how abhorrent their views on disabled people are. It's sickening.

Im a Disabled person. (Autistic and investigating cronic pain) Its not eugenics for you having the choice of not having a child with a disablity. Its a personal choice, It's your body and You have body autonomy. But Its Totally eugenics for you to think You can force other people into not having disabled kids like wtf? Like when do You draw The line? This child can live But The other can't? Like Its so ironic This take because, The same people against abortion is the same saying You shouldn't have an disabled child.

also like having a child without a disability at birth never means that kid will never grow up to be a disabled individual at one time in their life

wait but what if the people don’t have the funds, housing or capacity to care for a disabled child? I sure wish my mum never had me because she didn’t think about the fact she could end up having a child with complex needs so she’s just neglected me my whole life
