@ezeugo19: I lived in Shanghai for nine months. I never saw a pregnant woman. Not on the subway, not in offices, not on the streets. At first I thought I wasn’t noticing. Then I started looking on purpose. Young women—yes. Mothers—yes. Pregnant women—none. I asked my colleague Li: “Where are your pregnant women?” He laughed. “We have them. We just don’t show them.” “Why?” “It’s a vulnerable time. Why add attention, questions, stress?” By the fifth or sixth month, many women step out of public life. Not fear—protection. “Pregnancy is the body at its limit. Why add other people’s eyes?” Family takes over. She rests, conserves energy, prepares. “Is it different where you’re from?” Li asked. I told him about Anna—working until contractions, still doing presentations at eight months. Everyone called her “strong.” Li looked shocked. “Why risk it for admiration?” That hit me. We call “heroism” what they call unnecessary strain. “Pregnancy is not for proving strength. It’s for saving energy. You’ll need it later.” I remembered a friend who worked through pregnancy. After birth, she was exhausted for a year. “There was nothing left in me.” There, they plan differently. Months of quiet, support, rest. After birth, she’s not empty—she still has energy. “Visibility is not value,” Li said. “Sometimes invisibility is care.” Now I see pregnant women differently. And I wonder—what are we really proving, and to whom? #fyp #knowledgesharing #phycologyfacts #deepthoughts #relationships

This makes so much sense & every government should get behind this by offering financial support to pregnant women

I fully agree “ visibility is not a value, sometimes invisibility is a care”👌

For me, I worked while pregnant until I had my baby because I didn't have a choice. I needed the money and a job after I had my baby to come back to.

I work at an international firm. we communicated with our foreign counterparts and before she took maternity leave she told us: for any questions just raise the matter to my deputy I'll be on maternity leave from March to September.

it's not that we're proving anything. we have to work because we're not given the time off, and if you're lucky you get 8 weeks after pregnancy before you must return to work

So lucky my husband has made it possible for me to remain home and rest and prepare mentally the last 4 months of my first pregnancy. Due end of July ♥️it absolutely is a luxury I’m not taking for granted as many of my friends still are having to work while pregnant then go back to work. 🥺

We have maternity leave but we dont stay at home when pregnant. We go for walks and baby shop enjoying that time. Being out is good for you and the baby.

We have 6 weeks left of the pregnancy. My fiancé won’t let me work. I quit my job at 5 weeks. He works almost 80 hours a week and I appreciate it so much. I feel so bad pretty much all of the time. I just stay home and cook and clean.

this is a lovely idea/sentiment but most families can't afford for the mum to be to stop working at 6/7 months with no pay.

I went into labor at work and drove myself away while having contractions. That is the norm here in the U.S.

I was lucky enough to have a partner to take care of everything when I was pregnant. I stopped working before I even began to show! I was 4 months pregnant and I got to be at home. I’m still home taking care of our now 13 month old. Thank god 🙏❤️
